Those words are not a tagline or catchphrase. They represent an approach, a philosophy, a belief at the core of UPS’s being.

Purpose is not just what we do, more importantly, it’s why we do it. It’s the reason we get up in the morning. It’s the motivation that guides how we choose to spend our day. Simply put, it’s the reason we are here.

UPS recognizes that customers, now more than ever, look at a company’s behavior and its reason for being when choosing who they do business with.

The search to define UPS’s purpose began more than a year ago. With a 113-year history, UPS drew upon extensive research, discussions with senior management and front line service providers, focus group meetings with UPSers from all levels of the company and retirees. In addition, input was sought from customers and industry influencers.

UPS’s purpose looks to the future while acknowledging its past, focusing on the greater good beyond profit. Purpose taps into the very heart of our DNA. A desire to do what’s right, to serve others, and to elevate the quality of life for people around the world.
